Alfred Hubler's Homepage

Alfred Hubler graduated in 1983 in Nuclear Condensed Matter Physics from the Technical University of Munich. His Ph.D. at the Technical University was on controlling chaos and fractal particle agglomeration process. After his Ph.D. he joined Herman Haken's Synergetics group at the University of Stuttgart as post doc. Since 1989 he is a faculty member of the Department of Physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an external faculty member of the Santa Fe Institute. From 1993 to 1994 he was a Toshiba chair professor at Keio University in Tokio, Japan. Dr. Hubler published more than 50 papers in peer reviewed journals and almost 30 editorials about his experimental and theoretical work on complex systems (H index 16). One of his 2008 papers is one of the top 3% most downloaded papers of all Institute of Physics journals. The American Physical Society (APS) listed his paper on mixed reality on the APS tipsheet and invited him to give a press conference on this topic at the 2008 March meeting. Hubler has a 1997 US patent on minimum dissipation quantum-dot transistors and in 2009 the UIUC filed a patent in his name on digital quantum batteries.

Hubler is the creator of the online tutoring software CyberProf. Students describe him is a passionate and engaging teacher. Almost every semester he is ranked as an excellent teacher . In 2006 he received the A. E. Nordsieck Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching.

Hubler serves as an elected UIUC senator (3rd term). Hubler's detailed CV is here.

In the News:

Each month the American Physical Society selects four papers from all of its journals for the APS tip sheet. The APS tip sheet is designed to attract media attention to Physics research.

In June my paper "Experimental evidence for mixed reality states in an interreality system" with my graduate student Vadas Gintautas, Phys. Rev. E 75, 057201 (2007), was selected for the APS tip sheet: http://www.aps.org/about/tipsheets/tip68.cfm
